New Way Stationary Engines

Aim - To serve and support the New Way Stationary Engine restoration community.
There was a New Way Stationary Motor inclined to Hit and Miss. It was designed that way but intermittently it would missfire and this in the confines of the beekeepers shed fired my imagination, grabbing my senses. I just loved the sound of the New Way 3.5Hp working - likely fuelled by a too rich mixture.
With each missfire came the tell tale puff of blue smoke and via the old sawbench, the beekeeping manufacturing business was underway, alive and well. Alf was in his element. Romance, nah, hard work but Hoots the New Way went a long way in firing the imagination of times past running in the present. The present, after all, that's where life is, it's not in the past, but romancing the past, that's the present if you're living it.
The priveledge of life. Present and past is now!!! - alive.

New Way Engine Registry and Library

NOVEMBER 1st NEWS - October has been a busy month with good growth in the Registry and the library. Much of the library growth can be contributed to the generosity of the Smithsonian Trade Libraries and also to an apparent non new way enthusiast to whom we are deeply grateful. (Poster)
REGISTRY - About 10 New Way engines have been registered from accross a range of models. Arizona USA  joined the registry with three motors and the total now stands at 214 registered World Wide.
LIBRARY - Several documents have been added recently. I will try to give some pertinent notes on these. Many interesting documents to help with New Way Engine Restoration.
  • C-120 A 16 page mailer catalog compliments of Smithsonian Libraries.
      • 8-12 Hp Twins with the circular finning to the top (no radial fins)
      • Jewel (1.5 / 2.5 Hp) - larger Hp Jewels were produced later
        • Claimed as a heavy duty engine
      • Standard Verticals including the fairly recently introduced 6Hp model
      • Ordering and shipping tables
  • ART NOUVEAU POSTER  A single page poster in art nouveau style depicting sawing in the Yucon and Sheep Shearing in Australian summer heat. Watermarked to protect the owners original works. That said this is a beautiful piece.
  • 1909 - 1913 INTERNATIONAL TESTIMONIAL - This folds into an 8 sided document and by testimony enthuses about the New Way Motor Company line in general ( Compliments of Smithsonian Libraries)
  • EC4-100  WHY BUY THE NEW WAY - Short promotional illustrating the Horizontal Twin ( Compliments of Smithsonian Libraries)
  • O38 11 JEWELS 1.5 and 2.5 Hp Superiority promotion or the 2 jewels available. ( Compliments of Smithsonian Libraries)
The New Way Station library includes a range of the following:
      • New Way Engine Manuals
      • New Way Engine Instructions
      • New Way Catalogs
      • New Way Brochures
      • New Way Fliers

OUR PITCH for TREASURE
Please remember we are still chasing New Way Horizontal Twin Instructions in 6, 6-7, 8, 12 Hp. Some instructions covered a range of these models in Hit Miss and Throttle Governed. Please keep an eye and ear out as we would love to make them available for Free Download.
The other key one in need is the Big "Standard Horizontal 6.5 Hp" Instructions
Just Scan and email to geo.covey@gmail.com

Check out this new stuff in the library

New Way Engine Manuals and Documentation

New Way engine manuals and documentation is available from various sources. These are generally reprints or photocopies, some of excellent quality.

Farmerlink carry an item 1386303  NW  NEW WAY AIR COOL CATALOG (do a CTR F to bring up the find cell and enter New Way and it will take you to the item for ordering)

Smokstak carries many New Way enthusiast articles (threads), photos and advice etc.

GOOD READS for Restorers to build your general engine knowledge base, repair and maintance skills here are some books I would recommend. These were originally written in the early 1900s but have been reprinted so should be available with a bit of chasing eg Ebay or Amazon etc. The books are very authoratitive and cover areas very relevant to Air Cooled Engines and were written for their time and cover issues for the motors of their day.
  • Gas Engine Troubles and Installation - by J.B Rathbun
  • Gas Engine Ignition - by Norris, Winning and Weaver
  • Internal Combustion Engines - by Robert L Streeter (1915) - available as a print on demand book for about $25.
UPDATE  July 9th 2012 - We have recently added a library of New Way Documentation to the site. This includes Instructions and Catalogs and other hard to find New Way Literature. Most are watermarked but all are cleaned up and of excellent quality. ENJOY!!
Here is the library address. It is free to download. Have a browse and we hope you find something to treasure.
