I had a Bosch mag and made a gear to fit the 63 tooth same as the cam drive? Incorrect as the rotation set the timing off with every complete turn. I would like to know size of the gear and the diameter of it. The data plate is also missing and no numbers on it any where? The only fly wheel has a squirrel cage fan. It had been sitting in a barn since the mid 1960s. The serial number is C-6376. It has it's original Bosch FX1-ED1 high tension magneto with impulse coupling. Carb is a Zenith, I believe a model O. Carb has brass bowl and cast iron venture/throttle body. The engine has a sub base and New Way furnished pulley. It starts easily and runs OK. I'm thinking 1928-30 mfg. timeframe. The fact that the serial starts with an "M" confirms that it is a 3 HP engine.
The fact that the number is followed by a "K" tells us it is a kerosene engine. Other than that it is a throttle governed engine and should have HT Magneto ignition most likely by BOSCH.
Anything else I would need to see a couple of photos of the actual engine. Why not send me a couple of photos to my email address listed on the registry site and I can advise further and also register your engine.
Hear soon
George Georgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15648723393005835459noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3172269229213390252.post-53624121630455675582019-07-28T08:15:12.251+10:002019-07-28T08:15:12.251+10:00Hi I have a new way 3 hp ser # m1973k can you giv...Hi I have a new way 3 hp ser # m1973k can you give me any info on this engine thanksAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06661909490567340871noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3172269229213390252.post-44172109309692502822019-07-01T06:37:01.027+10:002019-07-01T06:37:01.027+10:00Hi There Guys ! I picked it up today and have found it has a New Way 2.5HP vertical engine with an engine number of 1920. The pump and engine appear in very good order (pump gears show no sign of wear. The entire unit has been stored in a shed and not exposed to the elements for a very long time, the current owner purchased the pump and engine 19 years ago when his neighbour died, he hadn't got around to picking it up until today as the widow is going to sell the farm. Fortunately some things move very slowly in the country!

Can anyone advise from the engine number what the likely year of manufacture was.

Obviously I need to do much more research but am keen to know how old it is. I intend to dismantle and check all is ok then put the pump unit into service on one of my cattle properties.

Thanks Chris Gorham
Northern NSW Australia.
cggorham@hotmail.com

Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10345393417892527512noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3172269229213390252.post-37580347810829601052016-04-24T11:59:01.317+10:002016-04-24T11:59:01.317+10:00Bert,

The fact that New Way Engines were made in Australia, obviously through some sort of permit or manufacture arrangement from the developers "New-Way Motor Company" in Lansing Michigan, has been a surprise to many New Way Enthusiasts. That said Horwoods of Adelaide were very enthusiastic agents of these engines and sold thousands, so it is to be expected that they might set up their plant to manufacture here in Australia.
