New Way Stationary Engines

Aim - To serve and support the New Way Stationary Engine restoration community.
There was a New Way Stationary Motor inclined to Hit and Miss. It was designed that way but intermittently it would missfire and this in the confines of the beekeepers shed fired my imagination, grabbing my senses. I just loved the sound of the New Way 3.5Hp working - likely fuelled by a too rich mixture.
With each missfire came the tell tale puff of blue smoke and via the old sawbench, the beekeeping manufacturing business was underway, alive and well. Alf was in his element. Romance, nah, hard work but Hoots the New Way went a long way in firing the imagination of times past running in the present. The present, after all, that's where life is, it's not in the past, but romancing the past, that's the present if you're living it.
The priveledge of life. Present and past is now!!! - alive.

"New-Way" Engines employed to power Proprietary Plant

Using a New Way powered Power Plant.
The New Way Motor company promoted their engines for a multitude of uses obviously supported by a host of 3rd party manufacturing companies utilizing New Way engines in their equipment. This was especially true of specialized farm equipment where New Way Engines were used to power many proprietary machines in lieu of or in addition to horses.

"NEW WAY" ADVANTAGE
The New Way Motor company produced high quality engines, to very fine tolerances with production certainly adapted to technological and mechanical advancement. It can readily be claimed that they were at the forefront of much in engine development with engines highly suited and adaptable for many uses both on the farm and in industry. Their engines were extremely reliable, easily maintained and consequently ideally suited to a social environment just moving into the age of the internal combustion engine. An example of this progression is seen where they quickly advanced from "Buzz Coil" ignition to H.T. Magneto ignition provided by companies such as Bosch or National.

WHY USE A NEW WAY

  • Air Cooled
    • No Spill-able water in hoppers or tanks. A great advantage especially where the engine was portable and on the move.
    • No water to freeze overnight etc
  •  Light Weight
    • Without water the engines were highly suitable especially for farm work on the move.
  • Reliable
    • Optioned for use of up to the minute ignition systems
    • Fitted with automobile style carburetors. (Mid 1900 teens onward)
    • Easily Maintained
  • Modern Engineering
    • Balanced Engines to eliminate vibration
    • Throttle Governed engines (Mid 1900 teens onward)
      • Allowed for fine rev control
    • Advanced quickly, soon providing good power to weight ratio with model advancement.

Most of these uses are contained within New Way documentation else they are established uses for their engines in some cases developed by New Way Agents.
Examples:
  • New Way Milking Machines of W.A. Preston in Brisbane, Australia.
  • Artesian Bore, Boring Plants by Horwoods of South Australia, Australia. Used for drilling bores many hundreds of feet deep in Australia's Artesian Basin.
Prominent examples of New Way Powered plant still existing today such as Centaur Tractors and Marco Lighting Plant from the Marmon Company of Chicago.

As can readily be seen the uses for the New Way Engine is only limited by the imagination of the user.

Many New Ways
