New Way Stationary Engines

Aim - To serve and support the New Way Stationary Engine restoration community.
There was a New Way Stationary Motor inclined to Hit and Miss. It was designed that way but intermittently it would missfire and this in the confines of the beekeepers shed fired my imagination, grabbing my senses. I just loved the sound of the New Way 3.5Hp working - likely fuelled by a too rich mixture.
With each missfire came the tell tale puff of blue smoke and via the old sawbench, the beekeeping manufacturing business was underway, alive and well. Alf was in his element. Romance, nah, hard work but Hoots the New Way went a long way in firing the imagination of times past running in the present. The present, after all, that's where life is, it's not in the past, but romancing the past, that's the present if you're living it.

"NEW WAY ENGINES" 

SINGLE CYLINDER  HORIZONTAL  AIR COOLED

New Way Motor Company produced their horizontal engines over a period of approximately 15 years. Horizontal production commenced with the second commercial engine produced, Model "B", a twin cylinder horizontally opposed 6 Hp engine in c 1906. These were part of their standard series engines (Series S) and ultimately included a single cylinder 6 Hp, along with 8 and 12 Hp Twin engines in both Hit and Miss and throttle governed versions. These standard engines (Series S) are regarded therefore as their heavy duty engines. (NOTE: TWINS are located their own registry page) 

Along side these later standard engines, from 1912, the New Way Motor company produced their lighter duty horizontal single cylinder engines, the "Jewel" line called J series. These were promoted as ideal farm use engines and ranged in Hp from the smallest Jewel, a 1Hp "Little Gem" to the large 6 Hp Jewel. They were a very popular engine, especially the 1.5 Hp engine as is seen from the numbers registered here. The earliest engines were open crank but this was quickly upgraded to enclosed crank for obvious dust and durability reasons.
